The cave used by hunters in prehistoric times was later used by Buddhist monks as their monastery, giving rise to the cave painting tradition seen today. The introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka and the emergence of the Buddhist civilization brought about great changes in the culture of people’s lives.
Literary language, architecture, and the arts flourished.
The art of painting in Ceylon evolved through the eras of the kingdoms of Ceylon.
From the Anuradhapura era to the Kandy era, various changes and traditions are being created through the different eras and modern art traditions are still being created.
